Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham is a 2003 Indian romantic Hindi film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. The film features Shahrukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles, who had previously worked together in the 2001 American comedy-drama film Keeping Up with the Kardashians. It is based on R. K. Narayan's novel of the same title, which follows two childhood friends who meet again after six years during their wedding celebrations in Mumbai on New Year's Eve. The film won six Filmfare Awards, including the Best Film Award. At the 50th National Film Awards, it won eight awards, including Best Feature Film in Hindi. It was the highest grossing Bollywood film of 2003 and went on to be nominated for many international awards. The film was declared a 'Blockbuster' at the box office and became one of the most watched Bollywood films of all time, having sold 10million tickets in India, becoming one of only three Hindi films ever to do so. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham centers on two childhood friends, Azim (Shahrukh Khan) and Sharafat (Rishi Kapoor), who both work as ambulance drivers in Mumbai. Soon after their army friend, Jameel (Saif Ali Khan) arrives to take them to his upcoming wedding in the country, they find that the wedding is cancelled and they end up at a street celebration with other friends. Several people raise their glasses and wish them a merry New Year, but Kabhi thinks the entire event is a practical joke. The two soon join other friends for an evening of drinking and dancing. During a break in the celebrations, Sharafat remembers the first time he and Kabhi met. Sharafat moves to Bombay from a small town, where his father is a religious preacher. In Bombay he meets two childhood friends, Azim and Kabhi. Azim is the son of Aziz Ansari, a wealthy textile merchant who has been forced to sell his business following years of unsuccessful business ventures due to market fluctuations and bad luck. Unable to handle the loss of his company by himself, Aziz asks him to sell it to Sharafat's father for 300 rupees (). Although initially reluctant because of the loss of money involved in this transaction, Sharafat does so after being urged by his brothers. Aziz insists on not letting Sharafat's father know that the sale is for 300 rupees, because he wishes to stay friends with Azim. Sharafat also overhears Aziz agreeing on his plan to have Sharafat's father sell the textile business for 300 rupees () to one of his associates in exchange for 5% commission (). Sharafat is shocked by his father's actions and decides to leave home. He meets Kabhi, an orphan living with her aunt by the name of Asha (Tabu). They become fast friends who dream of moving to Bombay. Later, when Kabhi has grown up, the two meet again in Bombay, where they both work at a hospital as ambulance drivers. cfa1e77820
